895 f.c. the extra value of which is 8985.52.

Extra rated asked for all figures & Statue. The claim is for carving and firing the figures &c. to

Pediment. The method adopted in the original Bill of

Quantities for measuring the carved work (except

statue of Justice) was, (a) to give the quantity of the granite as supplied and fixed; then (b) to provide in addition, for the carving. But (a) in-

-cluded in the total for granite walling and was not given separately. The Contractor therefore priced it at the rate for walling in small stones.

The same method was adopted for the final account. Regarding the supply. The extra value of the large

stones has been allowed in Item 7.

Regarding the fixing. This is already included in the total of granite walling as explained above; but an extra rate should be allowed as the granite is in

very large stones and in statuary.
